Video production standards

[HOME]

Our mounted deer head, Bob, finally understands our video production standards!

SETV has several production standards as a normal protocol. The standard used is dependant on several factors including:

  1. Length of show

  2. End quality of online presentation

  3. If a download video link is provided, a higher level of resolution is present

  4. Expected users

Our videos are produced with the expectation that more popular videos and shows have several components in common. Humor, seriousness of topic, unexpected events and "suspension of finality".

Video quality

Video quality is highly dependant of the length of the video and whether a longer video has been split into two or more parts. The highest quality is always strived for. On December 1, 2008 a decision was reached to produce all videos from that time forward in wide screen format.

Videos on the internet are dependant of two items of discussion. Streaming (opening the video in a web browser player) and bits per second (bps). Both are tied to several issues including, available bandwidth, internet loading, number of "hops" the connection makes and other factors. If a majority of viewers in the Saline, Michigan area have in theory the ability to download at a rate of 600 bits per second, streaming the content at less than 90% of the bandwidth availability is a waste of a resource. If the video streams at 1,000 bps, then the viewing experience is not as rewarding at the video will buffer more than is desired.
